Visa Information

Express Visa Instructions for Turkish Visitors Arriving by Boat in Chios – May 2026

Overview

In 2024 Greece introduced a special fast-track visa (Express Visa or “visa-on-arrival”) scheme for Turkish citizens visiting selected Aegean islands, including Chios. This makes short-term visits easier without applying for a full Schengen visa at an embassy before travel. The programme has been extended into 2026 and will be in effect during May 2026.

Eligible Visitors

Turkish citizens (and eligible family members) arriving by ferry/boat directly from Turkey to Chios port can apply for an Express Visa on arrival.

Express Visa Key Features

  • Valid only for short stays — up to 7 days maximum.
  • Travel to mainland Greece or other Schengen countries is not permitted under this visa — you must hold a full Schengen visa for that.
  • Issued at the port border control when you arrive in Chios.

On Arrival in Chios

When you dock in the port of Chios:

  1. Go to the border control / immigration desk.
  2. Present your passport and follow the application process
  3. Pay the visa fee (around €60, based on recent implementations).
  4. Border officers may check your return ticket and travel plans.
  5. Upon approval, your Express Visa (short stay up to 7 days) will be stamped/issued immediately.

Please note that there is an unlikely possibility to undergo passport control checks including fingerprinting as part of Greek entry formalities.
